TEMPE, Ariz. - (Jan. 15, 2009) - In an effort to educate consumers on the threats of identity theft and their individual points of vulnerability, LifeLock, the industry leader in identity theft protection, has announced that it will be offering free educational seminars to groups across the nation. The LifeLock Speaker Series includes presentations by Certified Identity Theft Risk Management Specialists focusing on identity theft issues relevant to various groups including senior citizens, college/high school students, businesses, and law enforcement organizations to name a few. Every individual with a US Social Security Number is at risk for identity theft and should take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from becoming the next victim - and LifeLock's Speaker Series provides consumers with the right tools to do so.
"At LifeLock, one of our top priorities is to find ways for increasing consumers' knowledge of the growing crime of identity theft," said Mike Prusinski, LifeLock's Vice President of Public Affairs. "This series has been designed so that individuals with similar interests can come together and learn about the latest identity theft trends, the inherent risks associated with the crime, as well as the types of proactive measures all consumers should take in order to minimize their risks of becoming a victim."
Identity theft has become the number-one crime in the nation, passing up drug trafficking, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Statistics show that identity theft affects someone new every three seconds, nearly epidemic proportions.
Additionally, LifeLock has partnered with the FBI's Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) to bring law enforcement together to educate and share information on identity theft trends.
"In an effort to combat this crime, we have been in need of an organization to step up and provide educational messages to best educate Americans on their vulnerabilities to this crime," said Wayne Ivey, a 27-year law enforcement veteran. "I applaud the resources and energy that LifeLock has dedicated to this program and hope that organizations across the country will recognize this invaluable resource."
